Most people are familiar with TED talks, which are a brilliant education tool and concept. TED Ed is a service which takes these talks one step further and allows TED talks and YouTube videos to be utilised to their full effect in the classroom. TED Ed allows teachers to ask questions and generate discussion related to videos as well as monitor student responses and give feedback. It is perfect for in class extension with a laptop or iPad, as a homework task or as a flipped classroom tool.
Kahoot! Is a competitive quiz based AFL tool for use within the classroom. It is similar to other apps like Socrative, but leans more towards competition as the score is calculated with a fastest finger first scale and runs a great deal more smoothly in my opinion. I have found it beneficial for all students: from year 7 to 13! It is simple and easy to use as well as allowing sharing between teachers so there is already a huge bank of quizzes.
